10th July 2020

Parent and Pupil Update July 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we approach our final week of term, I would like to inform you of events taking place in school next week.

Monday 13th July, parents/carers should receive end of year pupil reports. These will be delivered via Edulink.

Tuesday 14th July, pupils will celebrate (you are welcome to join in at home) French Culture Day (see previous letter).

Wednesday 15th July, our Year 6 leavers will take part in a socially distanced sports day, cheered on by the rest of the school

Thursday 16th July, Mr Brown will host our Year 6 leavers BBQ in the afternoon.

Children are invited to, “wear a hat” any day in school in support of Brain Tumour Research, a charity close to our hearts, in memory of our former pupil, Erin Bates. We have suggested a donation to this charity or St Benedict’s Hospice in lieu of any end of year gifts that parents may have gave to staff. Please see the following links to donate:

We will continue to provide all pupils with healthy meals, prepared, fresh each day in our school kitchen by our Head Chef, Mr Brown and his team. The cost is £2.20 per day (£11.00 per week) for a two-course meal. Nursery, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 should please pay dinner money through our online payment system, Schoolcomms every Monday for the week, in advance. School will continue to receive funding to provide Universal Infant Free School Meals for our pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Next Friday, 17th July is our final day of this academic year. School will be closed over the summer holidays. Currently the plan is to reopen to pupils Wednesday 2nd September 2020. This will be dependent on Government, Department for Education, and Local Authority advice at that time. We will be in touch with you nearer the time with a detailed plan for our pupils to return to full time education at Holley Park Academy. A separate letter will be issued to Nursery pupils and Reception pupils with details of their induction/return. We are hoping to offer our Breakfast and Afterschool Club service, again, details of this will be confirmed nearer the time.

Please see below the plan for our September 2020 classes.

A reminder that the school office remains closed to parents/visitors at this time.

I would ask that you continue to lead by example at home and encourage good infection control practices, such as thorough handwashing and keep your child informed about the advice in this letter and what we can all do to discourage the spread of Coronavirus.

As per the current NHS and Government advice, you should keep your child at home if they develop coronavirus symptoms for a period of seven days. Symptoms include a high temperature or a new, continuous cough. Where symptoms continue after seven days, or begin to worsen, you should call 111. More information regarding symptoms and actions can be found on the NHS website ( Please contact the school by email in the first instance or telephone and leave a message 0191 4170303 at your earliest opportunity. (The school telephone voicemailbox will be checked at 10.00am and 2.45pm Monday to Friday until further notice).

Can I remind parents/carers our staff are working extremely hard during these difficult, trying times and we will not tolerate abusive messages (including emails and texts) in any form. We operate a Violence at Work Policy. If you are abusive and/or use threatening behaviour towards any of our staff, you will be asked to leave the premises and make no further contact with the school. We will consider legal action. If you verbally or physically assault a member of our staff, you WILL be banned from the premises and prosecuted.

I would like to say thank you to pupils and parents for supporting the school through this ongoing, challenging time. We appreciate the positive messages and thank yous from parents and pupils who have adapted well to new experiences and new ways of learning in school and at home. Our staff have worked throughout this time to ensure school remained open for those pupils of keyworkers and to support our pupils at home.

The health and safety of our pupils and our staff is paramount and we will continue to work in conjunction with all Government advice to help minimise risks. To date we have had no reported cases of Coronavirus at Holley Park Academy.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S.E Richards

Executive Headteacher
